Meet Muhamad Hamdi bin Oman, aka Jepan
Muhamad Hamdi bin Oman, known to his friends as Jepan, is a 38-year-old operation technician at Lotte Chemical Titan who has found a passion for running. For Jepan, running isn't just a hobby; it's a transformative journey that has reshaped his life in more ways than one.
From Obesity to Marathoner: A Journey of Transformation
Jepan's running story is one of remarkable transformation. Weighing 105 kg at his heaviest, he managed to shed the excess weight and reach 70 kg in just four months through dedication to running. Running became his "me time," allowing him to clear his mind and focus on his health. This newfound love for running has led him to participate in several notable races, including the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) in 2022, where he finished his first full marathon in 4:18:56βsetting a personal best.
Significant Achievements and Personal Bests
Jepan has achieved impressive milestones since he started running. His "virgin" full marathon at the KLSCM 2022 was a standout, and he also set a personal best (PB) in the half marathon at the Putrajaya Night Marathon 2022 with a time of 1:44:13. He has continued to participate in various races, including the KLSCM in both 2022 and 2023, demonstrating his commitment to the sport.
Running as a Way of Life
For Jepan, running is more than just a form of exerciseβit's a way to maintain balance amidst a busy work schedule. Working shifts as an operation technician means his free time isn't always aligned with others. However, he keeps his running gear ready at all times, allowing him to run whenever he finds a moment. This flexibility has made running the most convenient and effective way for him to stay fit and healthy.
Why Jepan Runs
Jepan enjoys the many benefits that running brings, including improved physical health and the ability to wake up early with ease. What motivates him the most is his family. As the leader of his family, he feels a strong responsibility to stay healthy and set a positive example. He also cherishes running with friends, especially during RiseUp Run Community (RRC) sessions, where the camaraderie and shared experience bring him joy.
Inspiration and the Beginning of His Running Journey
Jepanβs journey into running began in a somewhat unconventional wayβhe was "forced" into it by his wife. The phrase #paksasampaisuka, which translates to "forced until you like it," has become a humorous reminder of how his running journey began. A pivotal moment came when his wife secretly bought him a Garmin Forerunner 945 for his 34th birthday. Feeling compelled to make the most of this thoughtful gift, Jepan decided to start running, and he hasn't looked back since.
Today, Jepan continues to push his limits, find new challenges, and inspire others with his incredible transformation and dedication to running. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance, support from loved ones, and the profound impact that a simple activity like running can have on oneβs life.
