The Beginning of KJRC

Kelana Jaya Running Club (KJRC) was founded on December 4, 2019, with the goal of bringing together runners from the Kelana Jaya neighbourhood. What started as a personal journey into running soon grew into a community where individuals could come together, share knowledge, and improve their running skills.

The first session was a 5 km run around the Kelana Jaya area, held every Wednesday evening. The initial group consisted of just 11 runners, but as word spread, more runners joined the sessions. Today, KJRC has grown to include nearly 150 active members, all united by a passion for running and a desire to achieve their goals.

Weekly Sessions at KJRC
KJRC offers a variety of weekly sessions designed to cater to different running interests and levels. These sessions ensure that every runner has an opportunity to grow, challenge themselves, and connect with others.

  • Tuesdays: Speedwork Sessions
Speedwork sessions are held every Tuesday, focusing on improving speed and overall running performance. These sessions are ideal for those looking to push their pace and reach new personal bests.

  • Wednesdays: Neighbourhood Run
The Wednesday evening 5 km run around Kelana Jaya offers a more relaxed and social atmosphere. This is the perfect opportunity for runners to unwind mid-week while staying active and engaging with the community.

Expanding to New Challenges
As the club grew, so did its offerings. KJRC expanded its sessions to include new areas of running, catering to those seeking different challenges and experiences.

  • Trail Running
Trail running was introduced for members who enjoy running through natural, off-road terrain. These sessions provide a unique challenge for those looking to take their running experience beyond the pavement.

  • Hiking
KJRC also offers hiking sessions for those who prefer exploring nature at a slower pace. These hikes are a great way to stay active while enjoying scenic views.

  • Long-Distance Running (LSD)
For those preparing for marathons or ultra-marathons, long-distance (LSD) running sessions are designed to help build endurance and achieve personal milestones.

The Division Team Structure
As KJRC expanded, the leadership structure was adapted to better manage the growing number of runners. The Division Team was created, with each division led by two dedicated leaders. This approach allows for more specialized sessions and support across a wide variety of running interests.

The divisions within KJRC include:

Speedwork Division

Trail Division

Bodyworks Division

Hiking Division

Long-Distance (LSD) Division

City Run Division

Ultra Run Division

Marketing & Promotion Division

Each division ensures that members receive the right training and guidance, no matter their level or running goals.
